Access to the main functions of www.425dxn.org is provided by the 425DXN App
for Android. It is available on Google Play - free of charge, no ads. Enjoy!
3C1L ---> The 3C1L operation (http://www.lral.lv/3c0l_3c1l) will QRT on 12
November in the UTC morning, and Yuris (YL2GM) and Kaspars (YL3AIW) will fly
back home the next day. Their latest update on Club Log (9 November at 03.15
UTC) included 35,143 QSOs with 12,481 unique callsigns.
ARRL INTERNATIONAL GRID CHASE ---> This new year-long operating event will
run from 00.00 UTC on 1 January through 23.59 UTC on 31 December 2018. It is
open to all amateurs, regardless of location or license class. Any operating
mode is eligible as well as every band, except 60 metres. The objective is
to work stations in as many different Maidenhead grid squares as possible,
and then upload your log data to ARRL's Logbook of The World (LoTW).
Each new grid square contact confirmed through LoTW will count toward your
monthly total. At the end of each month, the monthly scores will be reset to
zero to begin the new month of competition. The online scoring system will
maintain your monthly totals for a grand total at the end of the year, when
an annual summary will be released and awards given to top finishers in
various categories. See http://www.arrl.org/aigc2018 for complete details.
QSL 9N1AA ---> Dan, N4GNR is the new QSL manager for Satish, 9N1AA. "I
understand that N4AA had a sack full of unanswered cards at his home up to
the time of his death", Dan says. "I will be getting those cards this week,
and I hope to have them answered within two weeks. Any cards that come in
hereafter will be answered same day". QSL direct only to Dan Cisson, 12
Hancock Drive, Toccoa GA 30577, USA.
YASME EXCELLENCE AWARDS ---> In 2008 The Yasme Foundation (www.yasme.org)
established the Yasme Excellence Awards, to be presented to individuals and
groups who, through their own service, creativity, effort and dedication,
have made a significant contribution to amateur radio. The contribution may
be in recognition of technical, operating or organizational achievement, as
all three are necessary for amateur radio to grow and prosper. The Yasme
Excellence Award is in the form of a cash grant and an individually-
engraved crystal globe. The latest recipients, announced on 6 November, are:
- Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA) - to pick up the world's largest
amateur radio event on a few months notice and move it to a completely
different facility is a daunting task. That it went so smoothly was a
testament to the extraordinary efforts of the 600 volunteers and event
leadership.
- Paul Verhage, KD4STH and Bill Brown, WB8ELK - for their leadership and
continued technical innovation in amateur radio high-altitude ballooning
(ARHAB - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-altitude_balloon). While not
the traditional means of introduction, ARHAB is exposing hundreds of
students to amateur radio through an interest in science experimentation.
Both have written extensively about ARHAB and have contributed material to
the ARRL Handbook.
- Nathaniel Frissel, W2NAF and Magda Moses, KM4EGE - for creating and
leading the HamSCI (Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation) organization
that sponsored the Solar Eclipse QSO Party (SEQP). The SEQP was the
largest amateur radio experiment ever devised and generated the world's
most extensive set of HF propagation observations during an eclipse.
Beyond the SEQP, HamSCI is attracting the interest of professional/
academic researchers such as from numerous universities, the Arecibo Radio
Observatory in Puerto Rico, MIT's Haystack Observatory, and HAARP facility
in Alaska.
- The WSJT Development Team - initially the work of Joe Taylor, K1JT, the
WSJT software is now maintained and extended by a team of developers led
by Bill Somerville (G4WJS), Steve Franke (K9AN), Greg Beam (KI7MT),
Michael Black (W9MDB), Edson Pereira (PY2SDR) and Nico Palermo (IV3NWV),
along with Joe Taylor. Their latest digital mode, FT8, combines the
extraordinary low-SNR performance of JT9 and JT65 with a much faster
decoding and exchange process.
- Dale Hughes, VK1DSH - for his excellent work as Chairman of the Amateur
Working Group in ITU-R Working Party 5A and as Chairman of the sub Working
Group dealing with a worldwide 60 meter amateur allocation during World
Radiocommunication Conference 2015.
Additionally, the Board of Directors of The Yasme Foundation also made a
grant to Gary Pearce, KN4AQ, for his production and distribution of videos
of interest to the amateur radio community through Ham Radio Now and
YouTube. [TNX W6SZN]
