4L - 4L1PJ is the callsign issued to Peter, 4L/G4ENL. He expects to
operate SSB on various HF bands for the next few years while on
work assignment. QSL via N4GNR. [TNX DX World]
4X - The "Land of Craters" programme will see four special stations
operate from the Makhteshim ("craters") in the Negev desert of
Israel. The first activity was conducted by 4X0ARF (November 2020).
Look for 4X0RMN to be QRV from Makhtesh Ramon (Ramon Crater),
Israel's largest national park, on 30 January-1 February. QSL via
4X6ZM, LoTW and eQSL. A certificate will be available for working

LU - AMSAT Argentina, LU7AA will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the
LUSAT (LO-19) satellite on 16-24 January. Activity on the HF bands
will be on SSB, CW and digital modes. More information can be found

OX - Bo, OZ1DJJ will be active again in his spare time as OX3LX from
Tasiilaq Island (NA-151) on 13-30 January. QSL via LoTW, Club Log's

PA - Roel, PD0OYF will be active as PD112MKNN until 14 February, and
especially on 11 February. The special callsign's suffix stands for
Meld Kamer Noord Nederland, the Control Center Northern Netherlands
located in Drachten. 11 February is European 112 Day, when emer-
gency services remind citizens of the importance of "112", the
European emergency number available free of charge, 24/7, anywhere
in the EU member states as well as other European countries

PY - Alex, PY4AZ and others will be active as ZY4D from the Caparao Na-
tional Park in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais on 15-17 Janu-
ary. They plan to operate SSB, CW and FT8 on 80-10 metres. QSL via

UA - Vasily, RA1ZZ expects to be active as RA1ZZ/p from Kildin Island
(EU-082) on 9-11 January. He will operate CW and SSB on 40 and 20

UA - Special callsigns R1991A, R2021A, R30ARCK, R30RCK, RA30KR, RC30KR,
RD30KR, RG30KR, RJ30KR, RK30KR, RL30KR, RM30KR, RN30KR, RO30KR,
RQ30KR, RT30KR, RU30KR, RV30KR, RW30KR and RZ30KR will be active on
15-25 January to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Amateur
Radio Club Kristall. QSLs via operator's instructions. A number of

VU - Once again the West Bengal Radio Club (VU2WB) will provide as-
sistance during the Ganga Sagar Mela on Sagar Island (AS-153). This
is the annual gathering of Hindu pilgrims to take a holy dip in the
Ganges, where the river merges with the Bay of Bengal. Expect some
activity on the HF bands as AT2GSI on 9-16 January.
ZC4 - Garry, 2M1DHG is again active as ZC4GR from the UK Sovereign Base
Area of Dhekelia for the next two and a half years. He operates SSB
and digital modes such as FT8 ("please be patient, it's a new mode
to me"), SSTV, PSK31, WSPR and on 40, 20 and 10 metres, typically
between 17 and 19 UTC "a few nights a week". QSL via EB7DX.
ZF - Pete, K8PGJ will be active again as ZF2PG from the Cayman Islands
(NA-016) on 10-17 January. He will operate SSB, and will take part
in the North American QSO Party (from 18 UTC on 16 January to 6 UTC

apply for financial support to any DX Foundation or big Clubs as their
conditions are not acceptable to us for a trip to one of the most wanted

EU DX CONTEST ---> The European DX Contest Club has announced that the first
European Union DX Contest (EUDX Contest) will be held on 6 and 7 February

QSL 4O1HQ ---> As of 1 January 2021, the QSL route for 4O1HQ (all QSOs) is
via E77E. This is the HQ station of the the Montenegrin Amateur Radio Pool
(Mreza za Afirmaciju Radioamaterskog Pokreta), the national member society
representing Montenegro in the IARU (http://marp.org.me/).

QSO TODAY VIRTUAL HAM EXPO ---> "QSO Today" (the weekly podcast hosted by
Eric Guth, 4Z1UG/WA6IGR, https://www.qsotoday.com/) is organizing the second
Virtual Ham Expo, scheduled for 13-14 March. It will be held on a live
virtual reality platform that simulates a full convention experience with an
exhibit hall and exhibit booths, speaker auditorium, lobby, and lounges. The
QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo will feature new speakers and presenters, panel
discussions, and kit-building workshops among other activities. It will run
for 48 hours as a live event, then it will be available on-demand until 12

+ SILENT KEYS + Farrell "Hoppy" Hopwood, VE7RD became a Silent Key on 8
December, aged 91. Licensed since 1955, he was instrumental in the founding
of the Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC), formed in 1992 when the Canadian
Radio Relay League (CRRL) and the Canadian Amateur Radio Federation (CARF)
merged to create one national society after several years of discussion.
Hopwood was appointed RAC President and remained in that post for six years.
In 2015 he was inducted into the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame.
Leslie A. Bannon, WF5E passed away in his sleep on 31 December. First li-
censed in 1952 as WN9ZTD, he was an accomplished DXer with a current/total
count of 340/382 in the Mixed DXCC Honor Roll standings, 336/372 (Phone) and
331/340 (CW). He made a name for himself in the DX community worldwide
thanks to the WF5E DX QSL Service, which he run for about twenty years until
October 2013.
Also reported SK is Julio Ramiro Braz Mateiro, CT1ZW, who passed away on 2
January after a long illness. An early IOTA enthusiast and former Checkpoint
for Portugal, he had 340/363 (current/total) Entities in the DXCC Mixed
Honor Roll standings.
