Access to the main functions of www.425dxn.org is provided by the 425DXN App
for Android. It is available on Google Play - free of charge, no ads. Enjoy!
AU2K & AU2S ---> Plans are to upload both logs to Club Log immediately after
Cezar's return on 16 December. Requests for QSLs will be accepted as soon as
these operations have been approved by the IOTA management. QSO matching via
LoTW will be open on 2 January for AU2K (AS-179) and on 9 January for AU2S
(AS-153), starting with those requesting direct confirmation via Club Log's
OQRS. More information will be published on https://au2k.weebly.com/.
CANADA POST ON STRIKE ---> Canada Post's operations have been disrupted
since 15 November, when the Canadian Union of Postal Workers began a
national strike. Mail and parcels are not being processed or delivered, and
no new items will be accepted until the national disruption is over.
Acceptance of international mail and parcels has been suspended since 27
November until further notice. All mail and parcels already in the postal
network will be delivered as quickly as possible on a first-in, first-out
basis once operations resume.
CQ DX HALL OF FAME ---> "When Dick Ross, K2MGA (Publisher of CQ Communica-
tions, Inc) became a Silent Key, in April 2024, many wondered about the
numerous award programs that were run by CQ Magazine. One very important
program was the CQ DX Hall of Fame.
Prior to his passing, Dick gave his blessing for the International DX
Association (INDEXA) to carry on with this prestigious award, with my
guidance, if the magazine ever ceased functioning. As such, I am pleased to
announce that INDEXA will begin the stewardship of the Heritage CQ DX Hall
of Fame starting with the 2025 inductees.
Established in 1967, the CQ DX Hall of Fame honors those amateurs who have
made exemplary contributions to DXing and DXpeditioning; including both on-
air and off-air activities and accomplishments.
The activities and accomplishments that qualify one for membership in this
elite group called the CQ DX Hall of Fame involves considerable personal
sacrifice and can usually be described by the phrase 'above and beyond the
call of duty'.
It is not enough to just be a DXpedition team member a number of times. To
be in the DX Hall of Fame you might need to have the foresight to organize
DXpeditions to the very hard to reach entities around the globe, or perhaps
work on ways to open Amateur Radio in the countries where politics exclude
it.
Other accomplishments could also be to create or provide new and/or
important techniques that support the DX chaser. Other important attributes
to be considered include 'integrity', 'perseverance', 'good will', 'honesty'
and 'being noncontroversial'.
Nominations will be open January 1, 2025 through March 1, 2025. Please
send to Bob Schenck, N2OO (n2oo@comcast.net). Make sure to put CQ DX HALL OF
FAME in the subject line.
Inductees will be announced at the SWODXA - Dayton DX Dinner".
Bob Schenck, N2OO is the Vice President of the International DX Association,
a member of the CQ DX Hall of Fame and former DX Editor of CQ Magazine.
DX MENTOR RECOGNITION PROGRAM ---> The Southwest Ohio DX Association, SWODXA
in conjunction with ICOM America, Inc. announces the DX Mentor Recognition
Program "to recognize and reward amateur radio operators who have played a
key role in helping other amateur radio operators achieve DXCC" (note that
"those amateurs receiving the mentoring must be under 30 years of age during
the calendar year for the award"). The award will be presented at the SWODXA
DX Dinner, held annually in conjunction with the Dayton Hamvention. The
judging committee will be staffed by SWODXA representatives, as well as a
representative from both the Northern California DX Foundation (NCDXF) and
the International DX Association (INDEXA).
See https://www.swodxa.org/DX-Mentor-Program/ for more information and the
application form. [TNX AJ8B]
RAEM CONTEST ---> This year's RAEM Contest (https://raem.srr.ru/) will be
held on 22 December, from 00.00 UTC until 11.59 UTC, on 80, 40, 20, 15 and
10 metres CW. Organized by the Russian Amateur Radio Union (SRR), the annual
event memorializes Ernst T. Krenkel (1903-1971), the legendary Arctic ex-
plorer and radioman (callsign RAEM) on various polar stations and on the
first drifting ice station North Pole-1.
+ SILENT KEY + Antonio Gonzalez, EA5RM passed away on 8 December, aged 56.
An accomplished DXer with a number of achievements under his belt (e.g. DXCC
Phone #1 Honor Roll, DXCC CW and DXCC Digi Honor Roll, 5 Band WAZ with 200
zones), he was an active DXpeditioner, often organizing and leading teams to
operate from difficult and challenging locations, and as such he was
inducted into the CQ DX Hall of Fame (2020). Notable DXpeditions include
TZ6RD (Mali 2003), 9X0R (Rwanda 2008), E4X (Palestine 2010), ST0R (South
Sudan 2011), 5J0R (San Andres 2013), 5U5R (Niger 2017), TN5R (Congo 2018)
and HD8R (Galapagos 2021), as well as three operations from Western Sahara
(S05X 2003, S01R 2006 and S04R 2009), and four activities as 1A0C from the
Sovereign Military Order of Malta (2012, 2014, 2019 and 2023). Over the
years, he made a dozen trips to Bolivia to establish and maintain HF
communications links between medical facilities and remote villages in the
Amazon rainforest, and operated as CP1XRM during his free time. His
volunteer work in support of Solidaridad Medica Espana (NGO) and on behalf
of Radioaficionados Sin Fronteras (NGO) earned him the ARRL International
Humanitarian Award (2015) and the Intrepid Humanitarian Award (2017).
