3B7 DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #3, dated October 20th). Our last
communication goes back to several months but we didn't stay inactive!
All tasks are going as scheduled.
The logistical operations are going on and will soon be finalized.
Transport to St. Brandon has been secured by a 50% deposit. It will be
a 24h journey by boat between 3B8 and 3B7.
Once on the islet, we'll use the small fishermen's building as radio
shack rather than tents. For sure it will be much more confortable espe-
cially with high temperatures. We are working to get a reliable 24/24
electricity supply by generators. We already started to test, and pack
all our equipment in the crates previously used for Tromelin and Juan
de Nova.
Expert Electronics LLC provided us some of their famous SunSDR2 PRO
transceivers. We already have tested this setup with success on Juan de
Nova. Now, these SDR TRX will play a major role in our expedition. Thanks
also to our regular corporate sponsors Dx Engineering, Messi & Paolini,
Spiderbeam for their continuous support. We will give you more details
about our setups soon.
We already made important expenses and time has come to request assistance
from the DX community. Last week, we have contacted many clubs and associ-
ations who already supported us in the past. We are delighted to receive
already positive answers!
As usual, we are extremely careful with each expenditure, but such project
remains expensive. The team will provide more than 50% of the budget, but
we need your assistance to balance it.

this was being written, operators reported on October 20th, a total of
19391 QSOs (16000/CW and 3391/SSB). On October 21st, they reported to
having 23k QSOs in the log. QSL via YL2GN direct or ClubLog's OQRS (direct

3Y0Z DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #9, dated October 17th) [edited].
After over 10 years of dreaming and 2 years of rigorous planning, we
have turned a page. Our team is intact and ready. We have 17,000 pounds
of equipment. It has been tested, sorted, inventoried and packed into our
40-foot sea container. We have discussed all conceivable contingencies,
including rough seas, clouds and fog, high winds and emergencies at sea
and on shore.  We have studied propagation, maximized our location on the
island, selected the best radio equipment, and have thought first and
foremost of safety. All of this culminated when we sealed our sea container
on October 9th, entered it into customs bond, placed it on a truck and
watched it begin its journey to Punta Arenas, Chile. Our die has been cast.
Now, a new chapter begins: one of reflection, waiting anxiously and hoping
(praying) that all will go well from this point on.
We have been blessed by the worldwide support of individual amateur radio
operators, clubs and foundations. They have backed us, overwhelmingly. We
are inspired by the support we have received, both financially and in
spirit. We want to live up to all that is expected of us on this "gener-
ational" DXpedition, which is likely the largest and most challenging
DXpedition ---- ever. Indeed, there may never be another like it. We now
have time to appreciate the responsibility that this project thrusts upon
us. We feel it, and we will do our utmost to meet the DX world’s expecta-
tions from Bouvet - the number 2 "most wanted" entity.
You will start seeing band plans, more detailed propagation information,
QSL information and more on our website. Our Facebook and Twitter social
media outlets will keep their conversational tone, but shift their focus
to how you can best work us, plus current events and news of interest.
Our updated propagation forecasts continue to validate our predictions,
as visualized on our website propagation page.
Our team now has a singular focal point, King George Island, where the
next chapter begins. We will meet our ship there on January 13th, and
sail 2,200 miles to Bouvet. By departing from King George Island rather
than Punta Arenas, we save about 400 miles of sea travel. This essentially
gives us one or two more days on the air from Bouvet. We will savor those
days, because they will give us QSOs that otherwise would not have been
made.
We have asked more from our team members than for any previous DXpedition.
This includes their time, effort and money. We thank all of you who are
helping to defray some of their costs. We continue to welcome new and
additional support to help with these expenses.
  We are counting the days.....

4S, SRI LANKA (Press Release by Martti, OH2BH, date October 19th).
4S7-LAND AND THE CQWW SSB WITH A CUP OF CEYLON TEA -- 4S7AYG (UR0MC/
UT5UY), 4S7BHG (OH2BE/OH2BH) and 4S7KLH (R3XA) -- The Daily DX News of
October 13th suggested that Sri Lanka is the place to be for the CQWW
SSB Contest. So right they were that three visitor stations will be
penetrating the scene for a week, including the days prior to the contest
weekend. This semi-rare scenic island with its natural beauty is indeed
the place to be now and in the future, as their tourism offering is well
established with a line-up of fine hotels in full operation. How about
a trip to Cinnamon Island, the true home of highly-desired Ceylon cinnamon
along with those rare ones in IOTA AS-171.
Ham Radio Tourism (HRT) is indeed well-established in many places around
the world. Now Sri Lanka joins those ranks from zone 22 in the Indian
Ocean, seven (7) degrees North of the equator.  https://www.hamtourism.com
As an introduction, you can try to work all three stations during the
week of October 23rd and be eligible for the Ham Radio Tourism Award
(HRTA), which features those long beaches and unforgettable landscapes
of Sri Lanka. And enjoy a cup of famous Ceylon Tea while doing all this.
Your list of QSOs can be submitted to: <info@hamtourism.com>. There the
award is at no cost by pdf-email.

NCDXF NEWS (Press Release, date October 16th). NCDXF announces major
support for the KH1 Baker Island DXpedition [edited] -- The Northern
California DX Foundation is pleased to announce it will be a major con-
tributor to the KH1 Baker Island DXpedition planned for June 2018. Baker-
Howland is #4 on the ClubLog Most Wanted List now, but will be #3 after
the upcoming Bouvet DXpedition.
In 2016, NCDXF-supported DXpeditions activated five of the ten most-
needed entities. These DXpeditions put nearly 500,000 QSOs into DXer'
logs! That year we spent $156,000 to fund these and other DXpeditions.
It is possible that the Bouvet and Baker DXpeditions could add another
200,000 QSOs to that number!
<www.baker2018.net> has details of the KH1 Baker DXpedition.
DXpeditions to rare entities like Baker-Howland that are so remote are
becoming more expensive, a trend that we believe will continue.
NCDXF's primary purpose is to help fund well-organized DXpeditions to
rare, difficult and expensive entities, like Baker Island.  During the
last 45 years, NCDXF has granted over $1.1 million to hundreds of DX-
peditions – helping to put an "all-time-new-one" (ATNO) in the log and
make DX happen for thousands of DXers worldwide. The credit for these
large grants goes to the NCDXF contributors, individuals and clubs who
support the DX community.  Without those contributions, DXpeditions to
entities like Bouvet or other rare locations would not be possible.
If you agree with the importance of NCDXF's work, and if you are not a
current contributor, we hope you will become one today by clicking here:
                     http://ncdxf.org/pages/join_renew.html
Your contribution will continue to help make DX happen. You can also
support future DXpeditions by including the NCDXF Cycle 25 Fund in your
estate plan <http://ncdxf.org/pages/estate.html>.
We wish the KH1B team a safe and very successful trip to Baker Island
next year.
73, Glenn Johnson, W0GJ
    NCDXF Vice President

DXpedition" on the ARRL Web page at:

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <http://www.bandconditions.com>:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.
