R125, EUROPEAN RUSSIA (Special Event). Look for special event callsign
R125PR from Saint Petersburg to be active between March 1-31st. Activity
is to honor the world's first radiogram ever sent. The special callsign
was requested by the "Association of Radio Amateurs of St. Petersburg"
to commemorate the 125th anniversary of wireless signal transmission demo.
On March 24, 1896, Alexander Popov completed first ever radio transmission
at the Russian Physical and Chemical Society of Saint-Petersburg Imperial
University. The radiogram consisting of two words "Henrich Herz" tran-
scended a distance of 250 meters. Alexander Popov was present when inde-
scribable exhilaration seized the audience after the words were received,
decoded and chalked out on the blackboard. This was the world's first
transmission of an intelligible text by wireless telegraphy.QSL via R1AU.

VI100/VK100, AUSTRALIA (Reminder/Update/Special Event). From modest begin-
nings in 1921, the Royal Australian Air Force has grown into a potent,
World class Air Force which Australia relies upon in both conflict and
peace. The men and women of the Royal Australian Air Force have achieved
great success in serving Australia and its national interest over the past
100 years. The RAAF was formed on 31st March 1921, to mark this Centenary

callsigns:

team of Radio Amateurs across the bands around Australia.
VK100AF -- between March 1st and August 31st; will be used by Radio
Amateurs that are either current or veteran military personnel
and some activities may be from military bases.

Stuart Birkin, VK8NSB, will be organizing the event that will be aired
by many Radio Amateurs across Australia as they celebrate this centenary
with you. Numerous Australian amateur radio operators have volunteered to
assist with operating the special event callsigns to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of the Air Force in Australia. Operators (44 so far): They have
operators from all Australian States and Territories on the operators list
who will be active on all bands and modes over the period of the callsigns
