DAY-XENIA HAMVENTION NEWS...........
* Hamvention Covid Statement -- Hams and vendors hoping to attend Ham-
vention 2022 are asking questions about plans to deal with COVID.
Hamvention management is monitoring the situation closely. General
Chairman Rick Allnutt, WS8G, has issued the following statement:
"We strongly anticipate that the Hamvention 2022 is a go. We cannot
guarantee what government may decide about unknown changes in the
pandemic. It has become obvious that the State of Ohio is very unlikely
to call a halt to large gatherings anytime soon. Despite a recent
large spike in Omicron COVID cases and hospitalizations, there is no
move to restrict large indoor or outdoor events such as sports events."
Allnutt added that he anticipates the official state guidance may
be to recommend (but not require) wearing a mask and social distancing.
Hamvention will support state guidance. We do not anticipate checking
immunization status on site.
Some have asked whether COVID testing will be available at Ham-
vention. At this time there are no plans to have testing on site.
Watch hamvention.org for any updates dealing with the COVID situation.
Hamvention, an official ARRL Sanctioned Event, will be held Friday-
Sunday, May 20-22nd at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center.

* Press Release: SWODXA DX Dinner Announcement; dated January 25th
[edited]. The SouthWest Ohio DX Association (SWODXA) is pleased to
announce that we will again sponsor the DX Dinner, held in conjunction
with the 2022 Dayton Hamvention. This, our 37th annual dinner, will
be on Friday, May 20th, 2022, at the Dayton Marriott, 1414 S. Patter-
son Blvd., Dayton, OH 45409.
We will have another fantastic array of great prizes at the Dinner
and the Forum!
There will be a cash bar starting at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served
at 7:00. Following the event, there will be a separate room and cash
bar available for more fellowship. This is an excellent opportunity
to meet new hams and to renew old acquaintances as well as to learn
about past DXpeditions and those in the planning stages.
The Marriott is very accommodating to a group our size. The dining
room is on the ground floor so there are no steps, the dining room
is very large, and there is ample free, on-site parking.
This dinner is always well attended by some of the most avid DXers
in the world. Previous dinners had over 400 attendees! As in the
past, there will be some major door prizes, and there is always great
anticipation as to who will be named the "DXpedition of the Year" as
well as who will be inducted in to the CQ DX Hall of Fame. Addition-
ally, the Island Radio Expedition Foundation (IREF) will present the
"IOTA Expeditioner of the Year" award during the dinner.
Tickets can be purchased on the SWODXA Events website at:
https://swodxaevents.org/purchase-tickets/

(ex. FT8/OC-146/Celebes).
AS-104/ (Update) The following is an update by the RT9K team planning
AS-050. to activate Rykacheva Island (RRA-06-100; New One) in the Kara
Sea as R150WS [edited]: "On January 13th, 2022, 150 years ago,
a weather service began operating in Russia. The team of the
Project 'Legends of the Arctic' did not stay away from this
event. The state service is relevant and in demand at all times.
One of the founders of the weather service in Russia is a
well-known meteorologist, academician Rykachev Mikhail Alexan-
drovich (1841-1919) - director of the Main Geophysical Observ-
atory. In the 1870s, he was a member of the commission of the
Geographical Society to develop a plan for the study of the
northern seas of Russia. It was in honor of Mikhail Alexan-
drovich that an island in the Kara Sea in middendorf Bay -
Rykachev Island - was named.
Rykachev Island is the target of the sixth snowmobile ex-
pedition in the series 'Legends of the Arctic'. To activate
the island under the international program of the Islands in
the Ether (IOTA) and RR-06-100 under the program Russian Robin-
son Club - we received a special call sign R150WS Russia 150
Weather Service.
The start of the snowmobile expedition 'Legends of the Arctic'
to Rykachev Island is scheduled for March 3-4th, 2022, from the
village of Tazovsky of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. A
team of six people will have to walk 1400 km to Rykachev Island.
The route is developed according to the algorithm familiar to
us: the Yamal team and the team from Norilsk meet at the sopoc-
hnaya Karga marine hydro-meteorological station. Next, we go to
the coast of the Kara Sea in the area of the Pyasinsky Bay and
walk along the coast to the marine hydro-meteorological shore
station of Sterlegov. On Sterlegov we have formed a fuel reserve
for the transition to Rykachev Island and back."
Operators mentioned are Igor/UA9KDF, Alexey/RT9K, Victor/
RW0BG, Andrey/UA0BA, Andrey/UA9LDD and Andrey/RT9K. QSL
via UA9KDF. Look for more details to be forthcoming. Watch the
Web page at:
https://legendsarctic.com/ekspediciya_ri0b_ostrova_v_karskom_more_2_2_2
ADDED NOTE [edited]: Andy, EU7A, reports on Twitter that if
weather and ice conditions permits, the R150WS team will also
try to visit Isachenko Island (AS-050) while enroute to AS-104.
They will use the callsign RI0BI if active from there. Stay
tuned.
EU-031. Members of the Associazione Radioamatori Italiani Sezione di
Procida will be active as II8CAP from Procida Island (IIA-C002)
until June 30th, to celebrate "Italian Capital of Culture for
2022" (https://www.procida2022.com). QSL to IC8ATA.

NA-037. (Update) By the time you read this, Fred, KB4DMQ, is expected
to be QRT as KL7FBI from Shemya Island. Cezar, VE3LYC, reported
the following on January 25th: Fred informs us that he had to
take his antenna down, and will leave Shemya tomorrow, Wed.
(26th). Between 4 Dec 2021 and 24 Jan 2022 he made 1289 contacts
with stations in 53 DXCCs. He realizes that not everyone who
wanted to log him was able to do so, but he did his best to
be on the air as much as possible. While Fred is not scheduled
to return to Shemya this year, he is determined to find hams
among those who will be scheduled to work up there, get in
touch with them and encourage them to operate. He will explain
to them the pitfalls he encountered, and keep us posted.
