3D2EU ROTUMA DXPEDITION (Update). It was reported on the 3D2EU Web page
[edited]: We regret to inform you, that Tony (3D2AG) will be not with
our team on Rotuma, because of unforeseen work commitments. Our prepar-
ations are on schedule and in one week our team flies from Frankfurt
over Singapore to Nadi. After a short stay in Nadi we will fly on
Feb. 23th, with a small Twin Otter to Rotuma. And then... We will
look for you in the pileup.
Few other sources are reporting that the team will now only operate from
one location instead of two. Also, the team will not be operating on 60m
due to Tony's absence (no permit). For more details, refer to OPDX.1342
or their Web page at:         http://www.rotuma2018.de

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (From 3Y0Z Web page). Reported on February 14th,
at 1645 UTC: We continue our slow pace toward Capetown. We are currently
making 5.6 knots and are 293 miles from Capetown. We are showing 2 days and
5 hours until we reach Capetown.
The weather is pleasant. Our seabirds have decreased in number since we
left cooler waters. Recently, a pod of Orcas passed by, and the bridge
spotted a whale. Those were the highlights of the day. There’s not much
left for us to do. We have one /MM radio to occupy the 20 of us.
It’s a bit difficult to arrange and confirm our flights home and to
prepare for Customs/Immigration in Capetown without the internet, but
we are managing — sort of.
Thanks again to everyone and the good wishes we encounter on the air.
The “dit-dits” are appreciated.
  73, Ralph, K0IR
Reported on February 16th, at 1320 UTC: ETA at Capetown harbor is 0930
on Saturday morning. We understand that immigration and customs will
come aboard at 1700, and we will likely be cleared to depart the vessel.
DAP has us all booked into a local hotel near the waterfront.
On Sunday, there will be a reception held at a local yacht club sponsored
by a local radio club and numerous DXers. We are very much looking forward
to that and are certainly honored.
The first of the team will begin departing for home on Sunday night,
and the majority will be on their way Monday evening/early Tuesday morning.
A few more will straggle out and be on their way home on Wednesday.
When we depart the vessel on Saturday, that will be our 31st day aboard
the ship. Needless to say, we are ready to set foot on dry, un-moving
ground once again. Ralph and I are very proud of this team. They have
endured many hardships since departing home in early January. They have
been patient and resilient and good company. There will be more updates
in the future, as we begin to unravel this attempt and plan our subsequent
strategy.
 73, Bob, K4UEE

KH1/KH7Z BAKER ISLAND DXPEDITION (PRESS RELEASE #5, dated February 15th).
[edited] The 2018 DXpedition to Baker Island is proud to commemorate
the 81st anniversary of Amelia Earhart's disappearance on July 2, 1937,
near Baker & Howland islands, as well as the commitment and sacrifices
made by the Hui Panala’au students from Hawaii, who lived on Baker,
Howland and Jarvis from 1935-1942.
Not many people know that these "Hui Panala’au students" were unsung
heroes. They were part of the American Equatorial Islands Colonization
Project, which helped establish Baker, Howland and Jarvis as legitimate
US territories by forming settlements on Baker and Howland.
The settlement on Baker was named "Meyerton", after Captain H.A. Meyer
of the US Army, who helped establish the Hui Panala’au camps in 1935.
"Itascatown", on Howland Island, was named after the USCGC ship "Itasca"
which transported the students to the islands from Hawaii. Some of these
young men lost their lives during the simultaneous attacks on Pearl Harbor
& Baker-Howland-Jarvis on December 7-8th, 1941.
There is a strong connection between Earhart's trip around the world,
and these Hui Panala’au colonists. The students helped build the landing
strip on Howland for Earhart's arrival and were waiting to welcome her
on both Baker and Howland.
Itasca was anchored at Howland and was in constant communication with
Earhart as she made her final approach to Howland, but then disappeared
presumably in the vicinity of Baker-Howland, which are only 40 miles apart.
From some reports, a few students were also on the Itasca during those
final hours.
Our DXpedition not only honors Earhart, often cited as a role-model for
young girls because of her independence, persistence, and courage, but
also recognizes the important role the brave young Hui Panala’au students
played in US history.
KH1 is the 5th most wanted entity. Our plans are to bring the KH1
entity to as many operators, and countries as we can. We hope adding
these historical elements to our adventure makes it more interesting
and enjoyable to our audience and raises awareness of our hobby in the
general public.
As with any DXpedition to the really rare ones, this will be another
large budget operation. The operator team will contribute over 50% of
the expected budget of $400,000. You can help make this DXpedition happen
by visiting our website and contributing today.
             http://www.baker2018.net/pages/donate.html
Thank you in advance for your support.
The Baker Island 2018 Team

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <http://www.bandconditions.com>:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.
