2Q/GQ/MQ, ENGLAND (Special Event; Also Suffix /70). At the request of
the RSGB, Ofcom, look for some English stations wishing to retain their
usual Regional Secondary Locator to identify their DXCC entity to use
the suffix "/70" to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee (70th anni-
versary) of Queen Elizabeth II. It is also permitted to use the "/70"
suffix with the "2Q/GQ/MQ" prefix if desired throughout the month June.

3B8, MAURITIUS. Simon, G6JFY (HS0ZIB/TA/XW0LP/XW0LP/XZ2A) has been in
Mauritius (AF-049) since mid-January, stating he has "rented a nice house
with a big garden, and hopes to be on the air in the next month or so with
my 3B8 callsign." On February 12th, he posted his new callsign 3B8/G6JFY
on QRZ.com. However, Simon informs OPDX that he has applied for a full
3B8 license. Currently, no QSNs have been reported. He reported last
month, "I hope to do some low band DXing (I managed to bring my 12m and
18m Spiderbeam poles with me!)." Simon states that he is very happy with
the reception on top band - have a look at 3B8/G6JFY on 160 meters for
the past 24 hours :) ."
He does have a Mauritius address listed on QRZ.com, but suggests to
listen for a QSL route.
3D2, FIJI. Wojtek, SP5MXZ, is reportedly now active as 3D2SP from Viti
Levu Island (OC-016). Length of his stay is not known. Activity has been
on various HF bands using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL only via LoTW.
3Y0J BOUVET ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS.......
* (Press Release #8, dated February 8th)[edited]. 3Y0J? DXpedition?to
Bouvet Island, January 2023 -- Since we signed the contract with Marama
we have been working on fine tuning the dates and port of departure.
Today we can confirm that the departure date for the 3Y0J DXpedition
will be January 6th, 2023. It is complex to plan the logistics of such
a huge project like the 3Y0J Bouvet DXpedition which involves many
parties. The new dates are mainly related to the Marama vessel log-
istics, but as well the new dates enable us to return to Cape Town in
late February 2023. We can confirm the scheduled duration of the DX-
pedition is 44 days and that we have reserved a week additional con-
tingency at the end giving us more flexibility. We have contracted 22
days at Bouvet Island, and it means we will spend more than 3 weeks at
Bouvet. As we have the flexibility to still decide the port of departure
Ushuaia or Port Stanley this will be done at a later stage.
It is with great pleasure we inform that we have completed all equip-
ment selection for this trip.
For the station setup we will lineup 12 stations, that will include 8
human mode CW/SSB stations and 4 FT8 stations so to achieve our new goal
of 200,000 QSOs. We will be using the Elecraft K3S, a well proven in the
field DXpedition radio as the CW/SSB radio and SunSDR2 DX as the FT8
radio.
During peak time we will run up to 12 radios simultaneously by using
4O3A triplexers and InnovAntenna/Wimo tribanders together with Messi&
Paoloni coax. We plan for minimum downtime on the radios, and to achieve
this we will setup the 4 FT8 stations to run 24/7 so that these can
either be run by one operator separately or be run by any other oper-
ator in a simplified SO2R setup. This will be done so that each operator
can log into the FT8 machine from his operator position and run CW/SSB
and FT8 simultaneously. Running several radios by a single operator this
way has shown to be very efficient.
At Bouvet we are pleased to announce that we will use the well-known
S.P.E. EXPERT amplifier. We will bring with us various models where the
1.5K-FA will be the main model, but for 160m we will be using a 2.0 kW
amplifier and a vertical running a K3S with diversity RX. We will also
have several spare amplifiers.
We are also pleased to inform that as the RX antenna system we will
be using a ground independent RX loop system developed by LZ1AQ. This
RX antenna will be located 300 meters away from the camp and will pro-
vide us with a RX antenna for 160-30m with 8xRX output signals. It also
includes possibility to switch from loop to dipole mode.
We have procured 5 rugged YANMAR diesel generators to provide the
station supply that will also include 1 spare generator.
Going to Bouvet is a huge undertaking financially and it would simply
not be possible without the support from the vendors and our sponsors
Expert Electronics, S.P.E., 4O3A, Messi&Paoloni and LZ1AQ. If you want
to have the opportunity to work the rare #2 DXCC Bouvet island, please
consider supporting us by donating upfront.

* The following was posted on the 3Y0J FaceBook page on FaceBook page
on February 8th, by Ken Opskar, LA7GIA [edited]: Soon on our website
we will publish the station system diagram and also the antenna layout.
The setup consist of up to 12 stations at peak time where 8 Elecraft
K3S radios will be fixed to human modes SSB/CW and 4 SunSDR as FT8 sta-
tions. The 4xFT8 radios can be run from one operator position, or the
FT8 radios can be run from any other position individually. Hence, we
can run SSB/CW simultaneously with FT8 from every operator position in
simplified SO2R mode, or one operator can run several FT8 radios in
parallel from his desk.
There will be NO FT8 robots running unattended at Bouvet, all FT8 QSOs
will be initiated by a human operator clicking on the deserving callers.
We have a pronounced focus on human modes so to achieve the goal of
200,000 QSOs we will minimize the downtime of all radios and run the
FT8 radios 24/7, this also to maximize the ATNO. We will use the S.P.E
Expert amplifier and we plan bring in total 10 amplifiers and 14 radios
with us. Spares and backup has a high priority in all parts in this pro-
ject, e.g we will bring with us 3 x 160m antennas, 3x80m antennas and
so on and have 4xtribanders 20-10m installed.
We're confident in the selection of the well proven K3S as the CW/SSB
radio is a good choice.
As an RX antenna system we will use the LZ1AQ RX loop which has been
tested and proves to be a good tool for us in case of in-band interfer-
ence or noise. This ground independent omni-directional loop will be
located roughly 250m away from the camp and each of the 8xK3S radio
will have the possibility to share the signal and lsn to this loop
simultaneously.
If you want to have the opportunity to work this rare #2 DXCC please
consider to support us upfront via PayPal (bouvet@3y0j.no).

on February 13th, by Ken Opskar, LA7GIA [edited]: Some great progress
ongoing in Arizona by Bill Straw, KO7SS! Bill is in addition to being
a Team Doctor also responsible for procuring and assembling our:
* DX Engineering 40+30m vertical (phased verticals)
* 40+30m inband and backup
* Spiderbeam antennas (20m pole)
* 20-17-15-12m backup verticals (12m pole)
* 20-17-15-12-10m wire backup antennas
On 40+30m we can also run either a single vertical element but we
also have the possibility to add a phasing element - all currently
being assembled and tested by Bill.
We have spiderbeam poles for these as well 3 Rohn mast for backup
antennas.
As such we have 3 antennas on each of the 40+ 30m bands. We can
risk loosing one vertical and we can replace with another one! We
also have a 3rd backup!
On April 28th, all team members will gather in Oslo, Norway, for
a full scale system test. There we will spend 4 days together to
assemble and practice on the assembly of radios, amplifiers, antennas
and tents, perform a system test, prepare for packing the container
and for sure have some fun when socializing!

5H, TANZANIA (Update). Sergey, UT8UU, will be active as 5H3UU from Dar Es
Salaam, Tanzania, which is planned for the second half of the year 2022. The
timetable as well as all the additional information about dates, modes will
be added once the base schedule is complete. More details will be forth-
coming. QSL via UT8UU, direct, by the Bureau, LoTW or eQSL.
7Q, MALAWI (Reminder). Don, K6ZO, will once again be active as 7Q6M (as
time and power allows) starting February 15th, from the Embangweni Mission
Hospital at the Loudon Station in Malawi as a Mission worker. Length of
his activity is unknown at this time. Activity will include the ARRL DX
CW Contest (February 19-20th), CQWW 160m SSB Contest (February 25-27th)
and the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 5-6th). QSL 7Q6M via K6ZO.
8P, BARBADOS. Bert, K3AAN, is now active as 8P9AN from Christchurch,
Barbados. He has been active since February 7th, but the length of his
stay is unknown. Activity has been on 40/20/15/10 meters CW (usually
10-15 kHz from the bottom of the band edge). QSL via CX3AN only. NO
eQSL, LoTW and FT8.
8Q, MALDIVES (Reminder). Operators Karel/OK2WM and Vlad/OK2WX are now
active as 8Q7WM and 8Q7WX, respectively, from Innahura Island (AS-013)
until March 8th. Activity will be on 160/80/40 meters using CW and SSB.
QSL via their home callsigns.
9N, NEPAL. Robert, 9N7AA (S53R), posted the following update on QRZ.com,
February 12th: Just returned from a short holiday in S5 and in the mean-
time, the shipment with all the nitty-gritty radio stuff also arrived from
Kabul. Managed to set up the station during the last couple of days, how-
ever, lots remains to be done still. Rotor for the Ultra Beam / WIMO 2el
Yagi (40-6m) was also installed and the system works great.
Well, the QRM did not disappear in my absence and it is really bad due
to the widespread use of cheap LEDs, open and messy power lines, and
inverters. On all bands the S-meter rarely, if ever, drops below S6-7!
It is slightly better towards the East. Apologies for not being able to
hear you all.
For the time being, activity will only be on 40-6m, while the 80/160-
meter antenna remains a project for the summer months. This will also
give me some extra time to try and find a solution for the interference.
For those constantly asking - 60m band is not permitted in Nepal.
QSL via S57DX, direct only, and of course, LoTW and ClubLog will be
updated at least once a week. OQRS coming soon.
Please note that 9N7AA was previously operated by Andy, UA3AA. QSL
info for Andy's operation from March-April 2014 is via Andy Gromov,
PO Box 873, Brooklyn, NY 11230, USA.
