3A, MONACO (Reminder). By the time you read this, Kasimir, DL2SBY, will
be active as 3A/DL2SBY from Monaco until October 23rd. He informs OPDX
that Monaco allows only the use of 100 watts, and he will be using mobile
antennas for 30/20/17/12/10 meters (possibly 6m). Activity will mainly be
FT8, but he may also do CW too. QSL via ClubLog, direct or LoTW (He will
upload to LoTW after his trip). NO QSLs via the Bureau.
5V, TOGO. Andy, 5V7JA, is once again active from Togo. His length of
stay is not known. Activity has been mostly on FT8, but he does do some
SSB. Watch the 20/15/12 meter bands between 1300-2130z and after 0215z.
QSL via eQSL or LoTW. Andy states, "I'm happy to still send you an
old-fashioned paper card in the mail from Togo. Just let me know
(kb9iji@gmail.com). Thanks for your patience waiting on the mail system."
5V, TOGO (Reminder/Update). After their TY0RU DXpedition (QRT October
27th), the Russian DXpedition Team (RUDXT) made up of Vasily/RA1ZZ,
Vasily/R7AL, Leonid/RW9JZ, Vyacheslav/RW8A, Vladimir/R9LR and Nicholas/
R5EC will be active as 5V7RU from Togo between October 28th and November
11th. However, operators RW8A and R9LR arrived in Togo on October 22nd
ahead of the team to find the right QTH and make sure there is no local
interference. Also, Vladimir, R9LR, plans to activate via the QO-100
satellite with the expedition callsign 5V7RU, as he will not be able to
be present during the main activation and on October 29th, he is forced
to return home. So, you "may" hear 5V7RU on the air the same time as
TY0RU. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB, FT8 (normal mode)
and the QO-100 satellite. Suggested frequencies for FT8: 1836, 3567, 7056,
10131, 14095, 18095, 21095, 24911 and 28095 kHz (they will use both F/H
or Normal mode). QSL via R7AL, by the Bureau, direct, ClubLog and LoTW.
For more details and updates, see: https://5v7ru.org
6Y, JAMAICA (Update). Last week we mentioned that Les, W8YCM, will once
again be active as W8YCM/6Y from Negril Beach, Westmorland Parish, Jamaica,
starting November 27th, lasting until sometime in January 2023. He updated
his info stating that he will also be active as 6Y8LV between December
1-11th. Activity is holiday style (his annual vacation) and mainly on
SSB (watch 17 meters around 18157.5 kHz). QSL via his home address only.
NO Bureau or electronic QSL.
AH2, GUAM. Operators Toshinobu/JI3ERV/NH2C and Mikawa/JR7OMD/WI3O will
be active as AH2R during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) as a
Multi-Single entry. QSL via LoTW.
CR6, PORTUGAL. Operators Jose/CT1CJJ, Joel/CT1HXB, Filipe/CT1ILT, Bruno/
CT2HUU, Joao/CT2IMG, Felipe/CT7ANO, Nuno/CT7AGE, Jerome/F4AJS and Cédric/
F4EGZ will be active as CR6K from the contest station in S. Martinho da
Gandara, Portugal, during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) as
a Multi-? entry. QSL via CT1ILT.
E2, THAILAND. Operators Dietmar/DL3DXX, YL JayCie/E20NKB, Champ/E21EIC,
Bun/E25KAE, Mew/E29TGW, Ray/HS4RAY, Bruce/K0BJ, Stig/LA7JO, Marko/N5ZO
and Sam/SM3DYU will be active as E2A from the HS0ZGD Contest Station
of Ban Ta Bong, Phimai, during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th)
as a Multi-Op/Single-Band (80m) entry. QSL via E21EIC, LoTW or by the
Bureau.
FH, MAYOTTE. Marek, FH4VVK, reports on QRZ.com that he created the newly
Radio Club of the Foreign Legion Detachment in Mayotte [DLEM] (FH4KS) in
Dzaudzi, Mayotte (AF-027). He states, "It will be active on the first and
third Friday of the month as well as during SSB competitions, on the HF
bands. Be indulgent please we only have 100w of power."
FJ, ST. BARTHELEMY. Operators Janusz/SP9FIH and Leky/SP9FUY will be active
as FJ/SP9FIH ad FJ/SP9FUY, respectively, from Saint Barthelemy (NA-146,
WW Loc. FK87nw) between October 29th and November 14th. Janusz states,
"According to the "Clublog.org Most Wanted" statistics for FJ is on 15th
position in Far East, 52nd in Oceania and on 99th position in Europe, so
probably many 'small pistols' are waiting for their chance (for ATNO).
Please do not make duplicate contacts!" Look for Janusz to be in the CQWW
DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (15m) entry.
QSL via ClubLog's OQRS or their home callsigns. For more details, see:
http://fj.dxpeditions.org
FJ, ST. BARTHELEMY (Reminder). By the time you read this, Phil, K2LIO,
should be active with his new callsign, FJ4WEB, from Lurin, St. Barthelemy
(NA-146, WW Loc. FK87nw). The length of his stay is unknown. Activity will
be on 40/20/15/10 meters using SSB and usually in the mornings and late
afternoon. QSL via eQSL or direct to his home callsign.
HC, ECUADOR. John, N9EAJ, announced on QRZ.com that he will once again
be active as HC1FIT (if renewal is possible) from Otavalo, Ecuador,
between December 29th and January 18th (2023). John states on QRZ.com
[edited], "I plan on operating from (if able to receive license) same
location as last time only with different antenna - hopefully better
results." John will be active mostly on SSB with perhaps some slow CW
on 40-10 meters, using a Kenwood TS-590SG transceiver. QSL via N9EAJ
direct, ClubLog or LoTW.
HQ9, HONDURAS. Operators Ed/K1TR, Paul/K1XM, Charlotte/KQ1F, Bjorn/SM7IUN
and Dennis/W1UE will be active as HQ9X from Roatan Island (NA-057), Hon-
duras, during the CWW DX CW Contest (November 26-27th) as a Multi-Op entry.
QSL via KQ1F. Operators are expected to be active outside of contest on
various HF bands using CW, SSB and FT8, between November 20-30th.
IDXC NEWS (International DX Convention IOTA Dinner; Press Release).
IOTA Friends -- If you avid DX'ers, you probably know that the Inter-
national DX Convention (IDXC) in Visalia, California, is returning in
April 2023 after a long hiatus from COVID. Deo Gratias!
That means our in-person IOTA Dinner will also return. Our Dinner will
again be held in the Marriott Hotel, next door to the Convention Center,
as in recent years.
We have a page on the official IDXC web site, which will be updated in
February or March when I am ready to start taking Dinner reservations.
For now, you may want to bookmark this page:
https://www.dxconvention.com/pages/dinners-iota.html
That covers 2023. What about 2022?
Since the 2022 International DX Convention was cancelled, I plan to
host another "Virtual (online) Dinner" next month via Zoom as we did the
last two years, in order to maintain our standing as the longest running
annual IOTA get-together.
Since I have a limited Zoom account, I will primarily invite previous
Visalia DX Convention attendees, IOTA Ltd management and QSL checkpoints,
and major IOTA activators.
Zoom limits the free account to 40 minute sessions, so it will be a
short presentation. We will recognize silent keys, quickly review the
IOTA expeditions of this year, and go into a short presentation.
A separate e-mail will be sent next week with the Zoom invitation.
Hope to see you in Visalia, California!
73, Will, WC6DX
IOTA Dinner Coordinator

SILENT KEY (Press Release, by Martti, OH2BH) [edited]......
ESPOO, FINLAND, OCTOBER, 21ST, 2022
VERY SAD OCTOBER NEWS FROM THE NORTHERN VILLAGE
Peter Tigerstedt, OH5NQ & OH2BM SK
Peter is gone. Amateur Radio in Finland has lost one of its giants.
Peter was a real ham in many ways; he was one of the three pillars,
OH5SM, OH5NW and OH5NQ, of the Mustila trio who left their mark on not
just local but also international amateur radio. All three are gone now.
Peter took the international route. As a visiting professor in many parts
all around the globe, he always became integrated with the local amateur
radio community. A great example being W9YT, the University of Wisconsin.
Peter was one of the pioneers at both ends of the HF radio spectrum;
160M and 6M, and his contributions to both were significant. The multi-
multi contesting scene in Finland was very much born around the Mustila
Mansion and their battles with a more recently born team at OH2AM. These
battles could be described as fierce but friendly. So much so that the
rivals finally teamed up for yet another world win.
Peter was a mentor for a large portion of the younger OH contest gener-
ation and maintained an impressive multi-station OH5Z at the Mustila
Estate as its host and sponsor. Now the OH5Z group has lost their "father
figure" and are looking longingly towards the horizon.
When not involved in the many facets of Amateur Radio, Prof. Dr. Peter
Tigerstedt was a world renowned scientist, plant breeding expert and
professor emeritus at the Helsinki University. He was perhaps most famous
as being the founder of the rhododendron breeding program at Mustila
Arboretum. He remained the chairman of the Mustila Arboretum Foundation
all the way till his passing.
If you wish to remember Peter and honor his legacy, perhaps you can
plant a rhododendron P.M.A. Tigerstedt, named after him. They grow to
reach impressive heights, much like everything else Peter did during
his lifetime.
Our condolences to Peter's wife Irma and the whole family.
The team OH2AM and OH fraternity

the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-
Power entry. QSL via TF3MH or LoTW.
TK, CORSICA. Valentin, DL5GA, will be active as TK/DL5GA from Corsica

style on 80-10 meters using SSB using 100 watts into vertical. He will
also participate (part-time) in the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th)
as a Singlle-Op entry. QSL via his home callsign.
TL8AA & TL8ZZ CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC DXPEDITION NEWS (IDT Press Release,
dated October 22nd). Silvano, I2YSB, from the Italian DX Team, posted the
following [edited]: Just 20 days before departure of our Dxpedition to
the Central African Republic. Air tickets and visa are in our hands, and
the Team will undergo the final Covid-19 molecular test on November 10th.
Unfortunately, not so good news from Bangui. The Capital city is under-
going a severe shortage of fuel, available only at black market tripled
prices. A liter costs about 1600 XAF, in excess of 2.4 USDs. Our location
is equipped with an oil-hungry 30kW generator. Electric power in Bangui,
as well as internet, are available only a few hours a day, day or night
with no foreseeable schedule. Obviously, we shall try our best to be
available on air, but oil shortage makes any plan most uncertain.
73 Silvano I2YSB IDT Team
TO5/FS, ST. MARTIN (Update). Members of the Pic Paradis Contest Team
will be active from St. Martin Island (NA-105) between October 24-31st.
The operators mentioned are Marco/FS4WBS, Gino/I8ULL, Pat/I8QLS, Nino/
IK8ENH, Gianluca/IC8WIC, Marco/KC9FFV, Marco/N7QLS and Piero/W1NA. Their
activity will include the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) signing
TO5M as a Mult-? entry (this is in memory of Morton, W1UQ [FS5UQ/PJ7UQ]).
QSL via LoTW. The operators will probably use the callsign FS/homecall
outside of the contest.
TZ, MALI (Update). Jeff, TZ4AM (K1MMB), in Bamako, Mali, continues to be
very active on 40-6 meters using CW and SSB (especially on 10 and 6 meters
using CW/SSB). QSL via KX4R or LoTW. Jeff has posted the following updates
this past week on QRZ.com:
* October 14th: LOOKING FOR DXCC ON SIX METERS: My 10 element 6m beam
is built and and mounted on the tower. I will be looking for new
entities on CW and SSB (FT-8 is not working). So far, I have worked
69 entities: the complete list of entities worked toward DXCC is
posted at the bottom of this page. If you are not on the list and
you think there is a possibility of working Mali from your location,
please contact me by email or on ON4KST chat and we can give it a
try on CW or SSB.
* October 18th: I stacked my 3 element homebrew 30m yagi below the 6m
10 element yagi and both work like gang-busters. On 30m spontaneous
reports of very strong signals. On 6m CW, a few CQs to SA and Carib-
bean yielded QSOs with CE2SV (Dale) and 9Y4D and FG8OJ and PJ4MM with
very readable signals both ways. So the few people willing to get on
CW (can work Mali on 6m). Oh, by the way, I heard some strange noise
on the frequency and managed to work 9Y4D and PJ4MM again, but on
SSB! So, if you think the 6-meter band is open, please let me know
and we can try for a contact. 30 Meters: Look for the spots and call
up 1.1 or higher.
V2, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA. Operators Andy/KC2GOW, Anthony/N2TK, Fred/AA3R,
Dale/N3BNA, Brian/N3OC (V26OC) and Sam/WT3Q will be active as V26B from
Antigua (NA-100) during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) as
Multi-Single entry. QSL via KA2AEV. NO Bureau QSLs.

from the QTH of V47KP on St. Kitts (NA-104) during the CQWW DX SSB Contest
(October 29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry. He will be on
the island between October 23rd and November 1st. QSL via LoTW.

dropped 160m due to the advanced stage of the Solar Cycle 25] using CW,
SSB, RTTY and FT8 (F/H). Suggested frequencies FT8 (F/H mode): 3567, 7056,
10131, 14090, 18095, 21091, 24911, 28091 and for 6m terrestrial - 50323
kHz. The CW and SSB frequencies will be flexible. Equipment will be KX3,
Flex 6600, with verticals for 80-10 and Ultrabeam Vertical for 40-10m.
They will also use the callsign VK9C during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (Oc-
tober 29-30th). QSL both callsigns via EB7DX or LoTW. The following update
was posted on QRZ.com: "Our agent advises that our sea cargo shipped to

in Melbourne and Perth for the team's departure from Perth on 25th October.
The NA - Cocos Keeling path is notoriously difficult. We are therefore
