There were a few nice unusual callsigns about during the past week. 8S8S is a Swedish contest call. Check out the explanation on QRZ.com. R20RTA and R20RTT along with others are RTRS Central Russia, Special Event Stations. J42L is the Greek Crows Contest Team. 8B1FTDM (Indonesia) is Special Event Station for the FT8DMC Anniversary. They have a rather colourful QSL card, and loads of potential operators.
I just worked a few Europeans stations mainly Spanish with ZD4JC, St Helena, thrown in for good measure.

Contests: Information from WA7BMN
Worked All Europe DX CW contest is here. Moreover, the unique feature of QTC-traffic adds much fun and another operating challenge to the contest. Many leading contesters claim the WAE Dx CW to be the most challenging contest of the year. Being a true blue DX contest, only intercontinental QSOs between DX and Europe are counted (exception is the RTTY part). Therefore the number of DX QSOs here may be similar to the amount of DX usually worked in the CQWW. There is an SSB section later in the year.

The Sun: Only one sunspot which will die down soon.
The Perseid meteor shower is about to peak. Forecasters expect as many as 100 Perseids per hour on Aug. 11-12 when Earth passes through a stream of debris from Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. No matter where you live, the best time to look is during the dark hours before sunrise on Thursday morning. (space weather.com)
Also a rare naked-eye nova occurred. Every 20 years or so, a thermonuclear explosion occurs on the surface of RS Oph, a white dwarf in the constellation Ophiuchus. This week it happened again. On Aug. 8th, the brightness of the tiny star increased 600-fold, from magnitude +12 to +5.
Stoke beat Reading 3 – 2 in the first match of the new season. I was not there as I want to see how the new format for travel and entry/ to the stadium work. I’ve asked a friend. I have a ticket for the Fulham v Stoke match, in with the Fulham fans. That will be no problem. A good club Fulham and family friendly fans. Easy for me to get to. And much pleasanter than the travelling away Stoke fans.
The 1st Test Match against India was a draw with the last day being lost to rain. Either team could have won but the smart money was on India. The next Test starts Thursday for 5 days.
The Olympics have been and gone, can’t say I watched much of them just the boxing and Karate. I missed the Katas. Hopefully I can pick them up on replay
