European DX Foundation during November are DL32EUDXF from Germany (QSL via
Club Log's OQRS, or via DJ8NK), and OT32EUDXF from Belgium (QSL via Club
Log's OQRS, or via ON6CC). Information on the '32 EUDXF Award' for working
these and other special callsigns is on http://www.eudxf.eu/?p=2878.

INDEXA NEWSLETTER ---> The Fall 2018 edition (#123) of the International DX
Association's Newsletter (INDEXA) is now available for download at
http://www.indexa.org/newsletters.html. It contains a complete report on the
3C3W/3C0W DXpedition to Equatorial Guinea and Annobon earlier this year, as
well as the profiles of three new members of the Board of Directors. [TNX

QSL GALLERY ---> The large collection of QSL cards on Les Nouvelles DX's
website has been updated. Sixteen different galleries include 16,223 cards
for the ten Most Wanted DXCC Entities (2008-17), the 62 deleted DXCC
Entities, obsolete prefixes, stations from Maghreb from 1945 to 1962,
Allied Forces stations in Germany (1945-70), special stations commemorating
ITU and IARU, stations using the United Nations prefix (4U), Antarctic bases
and TAAF (Terres Australes and Antarctiques Francaises), the various French
DXCC island Entities in the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Americas
(from 1945 to 1969), pre-1945 countries, French Departments and CONUS, plus
a gallery for cards not accepted by DXCC. Your participation is encouraged:

TX0A & TX0M ---> "In just a little over 5 weeks, Adrian (KO8SCA) and I will
be heading down to French Polynesia for the challenging activation of OC-113
(TX0A) and OC-297 (TX0M)", Cezar VE3LYC posted to the expedition's website
(https://tx0a-tx0m.weebly.com/) on 26 October. "We are grateful to those who
have already provided us with financial support. At a price-tag of $28.5k,
if we can resell the power components upon our return in Rikitea, this is
truly a very costly endeavour. Since French Polynesia ranks low among the
Most Wanted DXCC, we know that virtually all the support will come from the
IOTA community. Consequently, we are looking for more islands chasers,
particularly from EU and NA, who are willing to help us out. We need your
assistance!"

VP6D ---> As the forecast indicated strong winds and rough seas, the VP6D
team went QRT earlier than planned, on 31 October at 16.20 UTC, "in order to
achieve a safe departure from Ducie Island". According to the latest
statistics, 113,726 QSOs were made with 24,920 unique callsigns (21.91%).
Breakdown by continents Breakdown by modes
----------------------- ------------------
NA 59,731 52.52% CW 58,593 51.52%
EU 30,296 26.64% FT8 26,158 23.00%
AS 18,291 16.08% SSB 23,279 20.47%
SA 3,452 3.04% RTTY 5,685 5.00%
OC 1,428 1.26% PSK31 9 0.01%
AF 528 0.46% PSK 2 0.00%
The most productive bands were 40m with 22674 QSOs (19.94%) and 20m with
21828 QSOs (19.19%), followed by 17m/18436, 15m/16761, 30m/12802, 12m/7900,
80m/6381, 10m/3933, 160m/3011.

YASME EXCELLENCE AWARDS & SUPPORTING GRANT ---> In 2008 The Yasme Foundation
(http://www.yasme.org/) established the Yasme Excellence Award, to be
presented to individuals and groups who, through their own service,
creativity, effort and dedication, have made a significant contribution to
amateur radio. The contribution may be in recognition of technical,
operating or organizational achievement, as all three are necessary for
amateur radio to grow and prosper. The latest recipients, announced on 25
October, are:
* Brian Machesney, K1LI, and Michelle Guenard - in recognition of their
extraordinary efforts on behalf of Commonwealth of Dominica communities in
the wake of the 2017 hurricane season. Their efforts included fundraising,
delivery of communications supplies, on-site support, and application of
amateur radio technologies to support the relief efforts which continue
today.
* Fred Kleber, K9VV/KP2 - in recognition of Fred's leadership and technical
Skills that support the Virgin Islands' emergency communications
capabilities. Fred has been a key player long before hurricanes Irma and
Maria devasted the islands. He is hard at work today re-building and
extending the interisland communication systems even after his own station
suffered extensive damage.
* Zorro Miyazawa, JH1AJT - for his extensive promotion of amateur radio in
developing countries. Governments and telecommunications administrators in
Bangladesh (S2), Bhutan (A5), Cambodia (XU), Eritrea (E3) and Myanmar (XZ)
have benefited from Zorro's patient and skillful efforts, supporting his
own government and his fellow amateurs in Japan and around the world.
* Stu Phillips, K6TU - for contributions to amateur radio through his
Propagation and DX Strategy website (https://www.k6tu.net/). In particular
his innovative tools, free for amateur use, enhance the use of the High
Frequency Terrain Analysis (HFTA) program developed by Dean Straw, N6BV,
another Excellence Award recipient in 2012.
* Randy Wright, W6CUA - in recognition of his long service to the Yasme
Foundation as our Awards Manager. His steady efforts and exacting
attention to detail and customer service are greatly appreciated.
The Board of Directors of the Yasme Foundation has also made a significant
grant to ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station,
http://www.ariss.org/) in support of the Critical Infrastructure Fund. Yasme
has supported this important upgrade to the ISS amateur station since the
effort began and challenges other organizations and individuals to support
it, as well. As of late 2018, ARISS is the only non-commercial entity being
considered for NASA's Deep Space Gateway program, indicating the importance
with which the space program views amateur radio. Putting and keeping
amateur radio in space is a significant expense and needs the support of the
entire amateur community. [TNX K4ZW]

+ SILENT KEY + The Reverend Paul E. Bittner, W0AIH died tragically on 31
October, after falling from one of his towers. Born in 1933 and licenced
since 1949, he was a retired Lutheran Minister. His main operating activity
was contesting from his QTH in west-central Wisconsin, known as 'The Farm'.
In 2009 he was inducted into the CQ Contest Hall of Fame: "spreading across
120 acres, his farm grows a wide variety of antennas, as well as regular
crops of new contesters", the motivation said. "Bittner constantly seeks out
and trains new contesters at his multi-multi station, and welcomes visiting
hams from around the world".
