IDXC 2018 ---> Registration for the 69th Annual International DX Convention,
to be held on 20-22 April at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia (CA),

IOTA NEWS ---> "The last date for mailing applications or updates to
checkpoints for inclusion in the 2018 Honour Roll and other performance
tables is 31 January 2018", G3KMA posted to https://iota-world.org/. "If
postmarked after that date, they will be processed in the normal way but the
scores will be held over to the following year's listing. It is important
that participants who have not updated since the 2013 annual listings and
wish to remain listed should make a submission on or before 31 January 2018.
Of interest this year is that in addition to the 2017 IOTA Contest logs a
much larger number of logs of IOTA operations on Club Log have recently been
made available for QSO matching". It is possible to get IOTA credits through
QSO matching for irregular log names. To facilitate this, the log names are
now listed on the accepted activations tab. In order to get a match for
AA1AA/P on XX-yyy with the log name AA1AA/P_XX-yyy, the chaser must upload
to Club Log a QSO with the callsign AA1AA/P_XX-yyy. Once the match is
obtained, the system will automatically use the proper callsign in the

VOACAP Online P2P (poit-to-point) HF propagation prediction service

That all ham radio bands are being considered and, after a careful
evaluation, the three best bands will be displayed, together with some

ZS8Z QRT ---> David, ZS8Z (ZS1BCE) uploaded his last QSO to Club Log on 19
November 2017, and has been off the air from Marion Island since then.
According to the South African Sunday Times, the 20-people science mission
on the island "is stranded with an 'unstable' team member, a faulty
generator and a critical food shortage". Reportedly an Indian relief ship is
on the way with food and fuel, but David is unlikely to get back on the air
before departing Marion in May.
+ SILENT KEYS + We mourn the tragic loss of David Collingham, K3LP, who died
on 5 January after falling through the ice on a pond while attempting to
rescue his stranded dog. He was 59 years old. First licensed in 1975, he was
very active in DXpeditions, contesting, youth development and charity
projects. He visited over 100 different DXCC Entities, operated from 63 of
them and participated in over 75 DXpeditions - 3D2DC (Fiji 2004 and 2011),
T33C (Banaba 2004), T30LP (West Kiribati 2004), K3LP/KP5 (Desecheo 2005),
VU4AN/VU3RWO (Andaman Islands 2006), 5A7A (Libya 2006), N8S (Swains Island
2007), 5W3LP (Samoa 2007), YI9PSE (Iraq 2010), ST0R (South Sudan 2011), 3D2R
(Rotuma 2011), ET3AA (Ethiopia Youth Project 2011), 7O6T (Socotra Island,
Yemen 2012), XZ1J (Myanmar 2013), VP8STI (South Sandwich 2016), VP8SGI
(South Georgia 2016) and 5U5R (Niger 2017), just to name a few. In 2014 he

Hans-Rudolf "Rudi" Lauber, HB9RG passed away on 26 December at 92 years
of age. "Rudi was a multi-faceted ham and active in many different
disciplines of our hobby", Pete, HB9PL says. "He not only held an
astonishing score of first VHF/UHF contacts between Switzerland and the rest
of Europe as well as beyond, but was initiator, sponsor and driving wheel of
a group of enthusiast who in the second half of the fifties realised the
first EME QSOs out of Switzerland. During the last few decades he shifted
his activities towards DX and achieved DXCC Honor Roll No.1 status (339/358
Mixed) in remarkably short time. His sincere, eloquent, competent and
helpful manners will be widely missed".

A7 - Three operators from the Lufthansa ARC Hamburg (namely DF4HR, DK2DO
and DL1BDF) have been active again as A71DLH from Qatar since 11
January, and will remain QRV on all bands CW, SSB and digital modes

C9 - Johannes, PA5X (C93PA) and Gerben, PG5M (http://dx.to/) will be
active as C8X and C81G respectively from Ibo Island (AF-061) from
28 January to 5 February. They will operate CW, SSB and FT8 on

H40 - There have been some changes in VE3LYC's original time schedule of
his Duff Islands project [425DXN 1389]. Cezar has decided to start
earlier and lengthen the DXpedition by a week, in order to include
some contingency in case weather and sea conditions delay the
voyage to Taumako (OC-179). "If everything works well", he says, "I
should be finished with OC-179 before the end of April, and
hopefully have time to operate from a second or perhaps even a
third IOTA group in the area". His second target can be the
Vanikolo and Utupua Islands group (OC-163, H40), and the third the
