Department of Defense Interoperability Communication Exercise Deemed a Success
A November 2017 Department of Defense (DoD)-sponsored communications interoperability exercise involving Amateur Radio was a success, according to information received recently from US Army Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS) Program Manager Paul English, WD8DBY. The November 4-6 drill, which focused on interoperability between DOD elements including MARS, other federal agencies, and the Amateur Radio community, simulated a coronal mass ejection (CME) event. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) automatically allows all radio amateurs to substitute their normal VK callsign prefix with the letters AX, every Australia Day. Our national day this year falls on Friday 26th of January. This gives radio amateurs the chance to be part of the commemoration the First Fleet’s arrival in 1788 at Sydney Gove and the establishment of a European settlement at Port Jackson, with the raising of the British flag by Governor Arthur Phillip.
On Australia Day many celebrate our country and culture. This includes the granting of awards, honours and the welcoming to citizenship of many immigrants. National flags will be flown

MALAWI, 7Q. John, N6JW is QRV as 7Q7JW. Activity of late has been
on 40 and 20 meters using SSB. His length of stay is unknown. QSL
to home call.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, 9Y. Thomas, DL9OBQ is QRV as 9Z4/DL9OBQ from
Saint Augustine, Trinidad Island, IOTA SA 011, until February 7.
Activity is on 30, 17 and 15 meters using mostly CW. QSL to home
